Firm Registration Requirements
This is a reminder that all firms in Ontario providing accounting services to the public, or engaged in the practice of public accounting, are required to register with CPA Ontario and that only the following corporate structures are permitted: sole proprietorship, general partnership, limited liability partnership and professional corporation. Private equity structures are not permitted.
If registering a firm in Ontario with an LLP or Professional Corporation structure all partners or shareholders must be CPA Ontario members as per the Partnerships Act, R.S.O. 1990, the Business Corporations Act, 1990 and the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario Act, 2017.
If a registered firm is seeking to change its practice, composition or structure, it is required to notify CPA Ontario as per Bylaw 10.2. Firms are required to disclose to the Registrar any changes to the information submitted on its original application for registration prior to the change taking place, and any and all changes are subject to the approval of the Registrar’s Office.
If you have any further questions about CPA Ontario’s Firm Registration Requirements, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
