Tax Immersion Program: Part 1

This multi week immersive program is designed to strengthen your understanding of personal and corporate tax through a blend of self-paced learning, live workshops, and annual tax updates. Ideal for CPAs looking to build or refresh their tax knowledge, Part 1 covers essential topics like income tax, capital transactions, and shareholder taxation—while offering 80 PD hours, with 4 ethics PD hours.

Tax Immersion Program: Part 2

This multi week program builds on your personal and corporate tax knowledge with comprehensive coverage of advanced personal and corporate tax topics, including specific areas such as commodity tax, real estate and estates and trusts. Designed for CPAs looking to elevate their expertise, it features virtual learning, case studies, and expert-led sessions. Participants earn up to 80 PD hours upon completion, with 4 ethics PD hours. Please note, Part 1 is not a prerequisite for Part 2.

Tax Immersion Program: Owner-Managed Structures

This 6-week program focuses on the full lifecycle of tax and accounting for owner-managed businesses from shareholder agreements and compliance to compensation planning and corporate structuring. Designed to help you level up your tax knowledge and deliver comprehensive service to your small business clients, the program blends recorded sessions, live webinars, and real-world case studies. Participants earn up to 40 PD hours upon completion. Please note, Part 1 and Part 2 are not prerequisites.

What You Learn

This program covers comprehensive tax topics for practitioners including:

  • Corporate structures, shareholder agreements, and compilation engagements tailored to owner-managed businesses.
  • Hands-on experience with small business compliance, including bookkeeping using Excel, QBO, and Xero.
  • Preparation of T-slips, GST/HST filings, and corporate and individual tax returns.
  • Completion of Notice to Reader (NTR) engagements from start to finish.
  • Practical tax planning for compensation strategies and effective business structuring.

Part 4: Advanced

This advanced certification is built for experienced CPAs ready to research, advise, and execute complex tax transactions with confidence. Part 4 focuses on how tax work is performed in practice—combining legislation, jurisprudence, professional judgment, and transaction execution.

Designed for practitioners who have completed—or possess equivalent knowledge to—Tax Immersion Part 1, Part 2, and/or Owner‑Managed Structures, this program prepares you to handle advanced files independently and at a senior advisory level. Participants earn up to 70 PD hours upon completion.

He is an adjunct professor at the Schulich School of Business at York University, where he has won multiple awards for outstanding teaching. Alex is a frequent speaker at various conferences and training sessions on the topic of income taxation in Canada.

Haroon is an experienced tax professional, having served over 14 years at the world’s leading accounting firms, including the Big 4, as Senior Tax Manager and Tax Partner. He develops and trains fellow tax professionals, and is a lecturer at the Schulich School of Business, teaching both MBA and BBA students.

Gregory M. SawatskyGregory M. SawatskyGregory M. Sawatsky MAcc, CPA, CA

Gregory earned his Honours Bachelor of Accounting from Brock University in 2000, graduating with three academic awards. He received his CA designation in 2001 and completed his Master of Accountancy with a specialization in Taxation later that year. Gregory became a manager in 2002 and was admitted to partnership in 2007. He has also completed the CICA In-Depth Tax and GST courses.
