2021 Annual CPD Audit

Regulatory Standard Edition: October 2021 | Published: October 15, 2021

CPA Ontario will be conducting its annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Declaration audit to ensure that CPAs maintain a certain competency level throughout their careers and to assess compliance with existing standards. CPAs must take a minimum of 20 hours of CPD each year and 120 hours over a three-year period.

As a reminder, professional development must be:
  • quantifiable, (i.e., specifically identifiable and expressed in terms of a specific time requirement)
  • relevant to their CPA designation and profession
  • tracked by maintaining supporting documentation for at least five years

If you receive a notice indicating that you have been selected for the annual CPD audit, it is important to follow all instructions in the notice to confirm your compliance and maintain your membership in good standing.

Please see Regulation 7-2 or the CPD Requirements Guide for more information.
