Candidate statement

Why are you interested in joining Council?

The CPA profession is evolving rapidly, but perceptions of a CPA’s role often remain narrow. My career has focused on challenging those limits – embracing change, adapting to new regulations, and advising leadership teams beyond traditional accounting functions. I’ve worked entirely in remote environments, which has strengthened my ability to lead distributed teams and collaborate across time zones. My experience in fast-paced, tech-driven sectors brings a forward-looking perspective on the future of the profession.

I believe the Council benefits from members with diverse, adaptable viewpoints. I’m committed to contributing with integrity, accountability, and a strong focus on public interest and the profession’s long-term sustainability.

How do your experiences align with the following skills, attributes and experiences that have been prioritized for incoming members of Council?

  • Strategic and Transformational Leadership
  • Emerging Technologies
  • Future of Learning and Work
  • Business Acumen

Over the past five years, I’ve worked exclusively in web3, focusing on companies leading innovation in emerging technologies and remote-first operations. In current and prior leadership roles, I’ve shaped product strategy and overseen accounting, tax and regulatory compliance. I now lead financial and regulatory efforts for a proprietary blockchain that enables businesses to launch and manage their own blockchains (appchains), combining innovation with complex compliance.

My fully remote experience has strengthened my ability to manage teams, collaborate with leadership, and deliver results in distributed environments.
As a finance leader in Web3, I bring expertise in emerging tech, governance, and compliance, well aligned with the Council’s priorities. I’m eager to contribute meaningfully to its mission.

What is the greatest opportunity and challenge facing the accounting profession and CPA Ontario?

Challenges:

  1. Resistance to technology adoption – Companies struggle to adopt new tools due to cost, complexity or reluctance to change. This resistance delays the move to faster, more efficient systems and limit process improvement.
  2. Skills gap & Regulatory lag – Most professionals in the field have limited experience with emerging technologies. This slows the feedback loop needed for innovation and contributes to delays in regulatory clarity.

Opportunities:

  1. Automation – automating repetitive, low value work frees up time for CPAs to focus on strategic planning and allows them to act as advisors within their organizations
  2. Real-time analytics
  3. Blockchain use for o2c, supply chain and financial transactions
