Detailed Bio

Voluntary work with CPA Ontario or other professional bodies:

  • Member of the IFRS Discussion Group of the Accounting Standards Board for two three-year terms (2018-2024)
  • Member of the Practice Inspection Committee at CPA Ontario for two three-year terms (2014-2020)

Career achievements:

Glen has had a unique career in that, while he would still consider himself “young”, he has been with McGovern Hurley for over 25 years. While his career is with one firm, this is by no means indicative of a lack of major achievements.

It is a unique situation when a co-op student becomes a partner at the age of 28, and later becomes the managing partner of the firm, leading, along with his partners, the development of one of the most recognized mid-sized firms in Toronto, and one of the top firms engaged in auditing reporting issuer clients.

Other professional accomplishments:

  • In 2022, Glen was named a Fellow of CPA Ontario.
  • In 2016, the University of Toronto (Scarborough) was developing its first-ever master program (which was enacted as a Master of Accounting and Finance program). In the development process, Glen was called upon to join an advisory board with other industry professionals to ensure key stakeholders related to future student opportunities were part of the development process, and to share unique perspectives. Glen was asked to be the representative for mid-sized accounting firms and was called upon given his long-standing relationship with U of T and the recruitment of their students.

Other voluntary service and recognition:

  • Ajax Pickering Board of Trade
    • Government Relations Committee (2016-Present)
    • Treasurer and Director (2018-2023)
  • Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation
    • Treasurer and Director (2019-2023)
  • Frenchman's Bay School Community Council (2009 – 2019)
  • University of Toronto (Scarborough) Accounting Advisory Board (2016-2017)

Why are you interested in joining Council?

At this point in time, our profession is undergoing significant transitions related to required skills and skill gaps, the role of assurance, regulatory burden, the qualifying process, talent shortages, inter-provincial trade barriers and our standing on the national and international stage. The voice of local and domestic firms is critical in this process. I intend to bring that voice to Council.

How do your experiences align with the following skills, attributes and experiences that have been prioritized for incoming members of Council?

  • Strategic and Transformational Leadership
  • Emerging Technologies
  • Future of Learning and Work
  • Business Acumen

When Glen joined the firm, it was a contingent of under 20 people, including partners. In 2025, the firm had grown to approximately 100 people.

As the first co-op student at the firm, Glen remained engaged with his alma mater at the University of Toronto (Scarborough), building a strong and long-standing relationship with the management co-op program that continues to this day. In 2016, the University of Toronto (Scarborough) was developing its first ever master program (which was enacted as a Master of Accounting and Finance program).

Around 2011, the firm joined the UHY International network to further collaborate with international firms to support a growing practice with international needs. Glen was an active participant with the UHY organization and in international meetings. Glen was asked to join the quality committee at UHY International and participated in that committee until 2019.

In 2019, Glen introduced the partners to a strategic opportunity to join the RSM Canada Alliance. Glen represents the firm with the Managing Partner teams from across the country and with similar peer groups in the United States.

Through the evolution and growth of the firm, Glen has led the succession of the firm from the founding, and next generation of partners, to the current partner group. This has not only included leading the execution of successful retirement strategies, but the complete redesign of the partnership agreement and governance at the firm, to one that we expect will support the continued growth of McGovern Hurley into the future.

What is the greatest opportunity and challenge facing the accounting profession and CPA Ontario?

While there are several opportunities and challenges facing the accounting profession and CPA Ontario, I view the greatest as being related to eroded trust and confusion surrounding governance disputes, including with CPA Canada (related to standards, exams, the new certification program, national cohesion and mobility). With the challenge of eroded trust and confusion comes the opportunity to find solutions to such matters and set our profession back on higher ground.
