Elizabeth Demers, PhD

Professor, Financial Reporting; Co-Director, CPA Ontario Center for Sustainability Reporting and Performance Management, University of Waterloo 

With global teaching experience, including in China, Singapore, Australia, France, Switzerland, Spain, Poland, the U.S., and South Africa, Elizabeth is the Deloitte Professor of Accounting at the University of Waterloo’s School of Accounting & Finance and the Co-Director of the CPA Ontario Centre for Sustainability Reporting and Performance Management.  

Elizabeth has decades of capital markets research expertise in non-financial performance measures, her research in recent years has focused on corporate sustainability. Her consulting activities include financial statement analyses and “red flag reviews” for hedge funds and other institutional investors, research and teaching presentations to investment fund managers, and litigation support for the quantification of economic damages. 

Elizabeth also serves as an editor at Contemporary Accounting Research and the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, as well as on the Academic Advisory Committee to the Canadian Accounting Standards Board (AcSB). Her work is widely-cited in both the academic literature and in the financial press, including The Economist, Forbes, the Globe & Mail Report on Business and the Wall Street Journal.
