A Letter from President & CEO Carol Wilding

With CPA Ontario reaching an agreement on a binding term sheet with CPA Quebec and CPA Canada confirming the funding of, and access to, standards Carol Wilding, FPCA, FCA, President and CEO of CPA Ontario, sent the following letter to all CPA Ontario members on October 4, 2024.

Dear CPAs,

Sixteen months ago, CPA Ontario began to pursue a new working relationship with CPA Canada that both respects our role as your regulator, positions us to deliver on our mandate in an ever-evolving economy, and ensures you continue to have everything you need to practice as a Canadian CPA.

Today, I’m pleased to share that CPA Ontario and CPA Quebec have reached an agreement on a binding term sheet confirming the funding of, and access to standards with CPA Canada. This builds on the bindingagreement we reached last year which ensures students’ educational journey continues and maintains common standards of entry into the profession.

As we’ve committed from the beginning of this transition period: our new way of working will ensure continuity for our members and students. Your CPA Ontario membership will continue to provide you with everything you need to practice as a Canadian CPA, including:

  • Using the designation and representing yourself as a CPA;
  • Enabling you to work across Canada and internationally; and
  • Accessing the Handbook and Board Guidance, while we continue to support standard setting.

In 2025, your mandatory Annual Membership Due will decrease. As of December 21, 2024 you will no longer be a member of, or be required to pay dues to CPA Canada. This will have no impact on your designation or ability to practice.

Ontario is home to approximately half of all CPAs in Canada, many of whom are operating at the highest level of Canadian and global business. We are at a critical juncture for our profession as we consider the challenges and opportunities we face, and the changing role of the CPA. From AI to the growing innovation economy, to sustainability reporting and assurance, and continuing to attract new talent to the profession, we face a dynamic and changing world. Embracing the possibilities that lay before us will ensure CPAs can continue their leadership role in the Canadian and global economy.

We thank the thousands of members who shared their feedback through our survey, roundtables and town halls. Your perspectives were valuable in informing us as we worked to find the right path forward to protect the public and uphold high standards for the profession.

If you have additional questions, please do reach out, or refer to our updated FAQ.

Sincerely,
