Mixed Signals: The State of the Canadian Economy

July 15, 12:00 – 1:00 PM

The Canadian economy is sending mixed signals. GDP contracted for two consecutive quarters, yet the IMF expects Canada to post the second-fastest growth in the G7. The labour market shed 112,000 jobs in four months, then gained nearly 88,000 in May. And the Bank of Canada has held its policy rate through five decisions, with a slowing economy making the case for cuts while energy prices push inflation higher.

Join us for the Insights Speaker Series featuring Andrew Coyne and Cynthia Leach, in discussion with Matt Lundy. Together, they will unpack the Bank of Canada's rate decision, the forces reshaping Canada's labour market and the broader economy, and what it all means for the months ahead.
