Office of the Fairness Commissioner

The Fair Access to Regulated Professions and Compulsory Trades Act, 2006 (FARPACTA), provides the legislative fair access framework for Ontario’s regulated professions and compulsory trades, collectively referred to here as the Regulated Professions. The Office of the Fairness Commissioner (OFC) was established by the legislative authority provided under FARPACTA to work with the Regulated Professions, to assess their registration practices against the obligations under FARPACTA.

FARPACTA requires each Regulated Profession to prepare a fair registration practices report annually or at such other times as the Fairness Commissioner may specify. These and other reports filed with the Fairness Commissioner can be found below.

Public Accountants Council for the Province of Ontario

The Public Accountants Council for the province of Ontario (PAC) is a corporate body that was continued under the Public Accounting Act, 2004. Its purpose is to ensure that public accounting in Ontario is practised in accordance with internationally respected public accounting standards that reflect the public interest in the delivery of superior quality public accounting services.

As a designated body authorized to license and govern the activities of its members as public accountants, CPA Ontario must meet minimum standards established by the PAC, one of which includes the filing of an annual supplemental report containing prescribed information. These reports can be found below.

Certified General Accountants of Ontario

As a result of the execution of a Unification Agreement with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario on July 2, 2014, Certified General Accountants of Ontario resigned its authorization to license and govern the activities of its members as public accountants granted by the council on June 22, 2010.

Certified Management Accountants of Ontario

As a result of the execution of a Unification Agreement with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario on April 1, 2014, Certified Management Accountants of Ontario resigned its authorization to license and govern the activities of its members as public accountants granted by the Council on January 24, 2012.
