COUNCIL SEEKS CANDIDATES TO SUPPORT STRATEGIC GOALS
A letter to CPA Ontario members from Anita K. Ferrari, Chair of Council, and Daniela Carcasole, Chair of the Governance & Nominating Committee:
Greetings to our CPA Ontario members. We are pleased to announce that nominations to Council are now open, with five seats up for election this year.
The pace and volume of change in our world and in our profession has only increased in the past year. Your Council is committed to keeping pace with these changes and ensuring it has the right skills to continually advance our profession.
This year Council has identified four priority skills and attributes for 2021: Board and Governance Experience; Risk Management and Oversight; Future of Learning and Work; and Effective Communication. More information on each of these can be found here.
Members in good standing who feel they can contribute to Council and our profession should consider nomination. Importantly, CPA Ontario has prioritized diversity and inclusion on Council and throughout the organization and profession. Lasting change can only happen if we all take action to address systemic racism and structural inequality, while creating opportunities for underrepresented communities. As such, we encourage Council nominations for Indigenous peoples, racialized persons, women, 2SLGBTQ+ persons and persons with disabilities.
Note that the nomination process will close on July 26, 2021. Notice of the Annual General Meeting, to be held on September 24, 2021, can be found below.
As we begin the 2021 election process, we want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the contributions from our Council members elected in 2020: Tony Pedari, Brice Scheschuk, Benjie Thomas, Iliana Oris Valiente and Jean Desgagné, who was re-elected, along with all who serve on Council. As Council, we realize that you have placed your trust in us, and we look forward to working with you to help guide the profession.
For questions, please contact General Counsel Tom Litzgus by email or phone at 647 519.7518.
