Over 164 Ontario tax clinics are run by CPAs – providing free tax advice to those who need it most. An estimated 3.5 billion returns have been filed (nationally) via the TPA program since its inception.

Did you know that CPA Ontario has 24 local Associations across Ontario? These associations are run by a diverse group of volunteer CPAs who dedicate their time to making a difference and enriching lives in their local communities. Our Association volunteers are ambassadors of the profession who extend their hand in offering professional development and networking opportunities.
“The social impact that volunteering has within the community is not the only thing that inspires me to get involved. Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose and provides opportunities to get involved with issues and projects I feel strongly about. Volunteering with your local association, in any capacity, provides you with an opportunity to play a role in determining the priorities of your local membership. It also opens the door to creating and leveraging those important social connections within your current career industry, or another area you might be interested in transitioning to.”

Nearly 10,000 Students across Ontario are completing their CPA Ontario Practical Experience Requirements with the support of our incredible group of dedicated volunteers. Our approximately 6,000 dedicated mentors volunteer their time and knowledge to ensure the successful development of future CPAs in Ontario. BOARD ADVISORIES, COMMITTEES, AND TRIBUNALS
Protecting the public interest is at the heart of CPA Ontario’s mandate. As the regulator of our profession, we set high standards and support accounting professionals as they work to serve with impeccable integrity. We rely on the expertise of the respected volunteers who sit on a variety of committees and tribunals to ensure the designation remains synonymous with strong credible financial and business leadership.
These volunteers work hard maintaining and evolving our rules, standards, and guidelines to ensure they continue to reflect our long-standing commitment to ethical practice. They also guide admissions standards, educational curriculum and accreditation, and students’ preparedness on their journey to becoming a CPA.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT VOLUNTEERS
The accounting world is continually evolving. In order to bring relevant and valuable information to our members, we garner the expertise and insights of our volunteer conference speakers and event supporters throughout the year. This sharing of knowledge and experience helps the new generation of CPAs and seasoned professionals develop the skills they need to succeed.
EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATION PANELS/COMMITTEES
Committee and panel members volunteer to help ensure quality control and compliance with standards for both Post-Secondary Institutes and the students they serve. Members of our Capstone 1 Panel play a crucial role in helping students achieve their CPA designation and members of our Accreditation Committee ensure our students receive the highest standards of education.
“We cannot thank our volunteers enough for the hours of dedication they provide towards ensuring our students are trained well and impeccably prepared as CPAs. Our volunteers play an integral role in the education of our CPA students.”
- Jacqui Mulligan, Director, Education, CPA Ontario
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR VOLUNTEER AWARD RECIPIENTS
2019 is the inaugural year for our new Volunteer Award. We asked our members to nominate their peers who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and advocacy for CPA Ontario. Our selection committee reviewed all nominations, and after careful consideration, we are excited to recognize four CPA Ontario members for their distinguished service and for going above and beyond the call of duty.
