Edward Fink, FCPA, FCA
Edward Fink is a Partner with Miller Bernstein LLP, a Toronto firm that concentrates on dealing with owner-managed entities and prides itself on helping them meet their business and taxation needs. Edward is the founding Vice-Chair of CPA Ontario’s Small Practices Advisory Committee (SPAC), which acts as a bridge between small practitioners and their regulatory body. He is currently the SPAC Chair and played a significant role in the creation and adoption of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise. Edward has often worked with standard setters, including the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board and by serving as an associate member on the Private Enterprise Advisory Committee of the Accounting Standards Board from its inception.
Douglas D. French, FCPA, FCA
Since 1996, Doug French has accepted challenges in increasingly senior roles at TELUS, culminating in his appointment as Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer in May 2016. Today, he leads a 600-person team of trusted business partners responsible for financial operations, reporting and analysis, treasury, investor relations, risk management, revenue assurance, taxation, pension investment management and corporate development. He began his career at Ernst & Young and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Commerce and Economics from the University of Toronto. Doug is a member of the International Accounting Standards Global Preparers Forum, The Prince’s Accounting for Sustainability organization and the Business Council of British Columbia.
Kerry D. Gerber, FCPA, FCA
Spanning 36 years with PwC, Kerry Gerber led client engagements and held a variety of management roles in three offices. Prior to his recent retirement, Kerry was Chief Auditor, responsible for Assurance practice quality controls, risk management, inspections, audit methodology, and PwC’s relationships with audit regulators. Kerry served on the PwC Partnership Board for six years, chairing both the Finance and Governance committees, and on the Network Assurance Risk Management Committee at the global level. He also volunteered as member of CPA Canada’s Advisory Group on Audit Guidance for several years. In Kitchener-Waterloo, London and, more recently, in Toronto, Kerry made time to actively support charitable endeavours, including the PwC Foundation and serving numerous community-based organizations as a director.
John (Ian) Giffen, FCPA, FCA
Building on a successful career as a public company CFO, Ian Giffen has spent the last two decades as a director and advisor on numerous boards and venture capital funds, particularly in the technology sector. Ian has helped organizations achieve aggressive growth and financial goals, and complete significant M&A transactions, including hostile takeovers. Focused on maximizing shareholder value and demonstrating good governance, Ian has achieved a reputation as an experienced corporate director and chair. He currently serves as lead director for Kinaxis Inc, and also serves on the board of Absolute Software, D2L, and PeopleFluent. Past board service includes work for Descartes, Macromedia, Certicom, Ruggedcom and Corel. Ian serves on the boards of CAMH and the Daily Bread Food Bank
Richard N. Ginsberg, FCPA, FCA
As Deloitte LLP’s National Service Line Leader for Valuation Services, Richard Ginsberg leads a team of over 150 dedicated valuation professionals, including 20 partners, most of whom are CPAs and CBVs. This team specializes in the provision of valuation and expert reports for M&A, financial reporting, corporate restructurings, taxation, board advisor, and litigation support. In 2016, just five years after he was elected to join the board of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators, Richard became its Chairman and was awarded the “Top CBV Under 40”. He has been a presenter to Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development in Paris, as well as a guest speaker for merger and acquisition courses at the Schulich School of Business’ MBA program.
Kevin A. Glass, FCPA, FCA
As Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of CIBC, Kevin Glass is responsible for the bank’s financial management and strategy, including governance, reporting, treasury and capital management, taxation, and investor relations. He is executive sponsor of CIBC’s Chartered Professional Accountant Pre-Approved Program, designed to build foundational knowledge and career prospects for CPA candidates, while enabling fulfillment of the CPA designation requirements. Ross is a leading accounting expert with respect to the quantification of losses in intellectual property matters, especially in cases involving the pharmaceutical industry, where he has testified at numerous trials. Ross is also well known and recognized for his involvement in the community, supporting the United Way of Greater Toronto, Canadian Blood Services donor drives and Feed the Hungry.
Jason M. Harris, FCPA, FCA
Jason Harris was a Partner with Hazlitt Steeves Harris Dunn LLP when the firm merged with BDO Canada LLP on January 1, 2017. Now a BDO Partner, he has had significant success working with Aboriginal communities and not-for-profit organizations, while establishing a positive reputation in Sarnia and surrounding communities. Since it was reinstated in 2007, Jason has been an actively involved member of CPA Ontario’s Small Practice Advisory Committee and served until June 30, 2017, when his final term finished. He actively supports Huron House Boys’ Home Foundation fundraising initiatives and has volunteered for Junior Achievement, The University of London Ontario Alumni Association, Lambton Mental Health Foundation and the Canadian Red Cross Society.
Jay T. Harris, FCPA, FCA
Since 1999, Jay Harris has been the President of Harris & Partners Inc., a Licensed Insolvency Trustee with eleven regional offices in the GTA and southern Ontario area. The firm was a pioneer in developing working relationships with not-for-profit organizations helping thousands of individuals solve their debt problems. Jay is Past President of the York Region District Chartered Accountant’s Association and the Ontario Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals. He has participated on many committees of Canada’s Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals with recent emphasis on education. He is Past President of Beth David Synagogue and is currently the Chair of B’nai Brith Canada, a national not-for-profit organization championing affordable housing while opposing anti-Semitism and all issues of racism.
Kenneth M. Hartwick, FCPA, FCA
Ken Hartwick is the CFO and Senior VP, Finance, at Ontario Power Generation (OPG), which produces almost half of the electricity that Ontario homes, schools, hospitals and businesses rely on each day. His responsibilities include: direction of financial reporting and internal control requirements; treasury and financing activities; developing corporate strategy with the executive team; and supporting business operations to achieve financial goals and objectives. Passionate about developing the next generation of CPAs, Ken is the executive sponsor of OPG’s Chartered Professional Accountant Pre-Approved Program. An alumnus of Trent University, he served on the Trent Board and the Fundraising Campaign Chair. In the latter role, Ken was in conjunction with the Trent team successfully achieved a campaign goal to raise $50 million.
