Need to know

Before CFS 2022

  • CFS 2022 will take place on Hopin. You don’t need to download anything, Hopin works through your browser
  • On January 19 you will receive an email from Hopin with a link to the event and to create your profile. Keep this and make sure you log on before 1 p.m. on Friday January 21 and before 10 a.m. on Saturday January 22
  • Here’s a guide on how to use Hopin

During CFS 2022

  • You may be asked to go on camera. Make sure you’re dressed appropriately for a professional conference and are mindful of what is in your background during workshops.
  • If you have any technical difficulties, send a direct message to Frank Taddeo and our tech support team will be there to help.
  • Make sure to get involved with the chat throughout the conference – there are 20 Prize Boxes (with over $100 worth of swag) to be won over the 2 days of the conference.
  • Pay attention! The end of day 2 (Saturday January 22) there will be a chance to win one of three amazing prizes provided by Xero if you can answer questions about the whole conference.
  • Share what you’re enjoying on social media. Tag us on LinkedIn and Instagram @CPAOntario and use #CFS2022

She is also a business and empowerment expert as well as a TV, radio and podcast personality.

Along with her philanthropic efforts through mentorship, Vivian has worked with many notable brands such as Shopify, Porsche Canada, Unilever, LG, RBC, BMO, American Express Canada and Rogers Media, to name a few.

Sarah stepped into the Dragons’ Den with her five-year-old daughter while eight months pregnant. The Waterloo alumnus pitched her small business, Bluish, and ended up striking a deal from Canadian investor Arlene Dickinson.

Sarah’s entrepreneurial journey started with the birth of her daughter Summer, and she’s now pursuing it full-time. Her impactful story and beautifully crafted tutus touched Dickinson, who saw Sarah’s venture as a platform for women to share their stories of new motherhood and postpartum depression without guilt or judgment.

Julian Wang, CPA, CA has over 10 years of experience in the finance and accounting field. Starting his career as an analyst with the world's largest Property and Casualty insurance company, he has held leadership positions in multiple cultural and industrial sectors.

Currently, Julian is the Controller of Bitbuy Technologies Inc., a Toronto-based leading Canadian cryptocurrencies trading platform and one of the fastest-growing fintech companies in Canada. He holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting, a master's degree in Law and an MBA from Cornell University and Queen's University

Sindi Dema, CPA

Sindi Dema, CPA, CA, is an Experienced Senior within the Audit Public Practice at Deloitte. She specializes in the mining industry and has experience in real estate and finance.

Prior to starting full-time with Deloitte, Sindi completed her Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting and her Professionals Masters Diploma in Accounting, both at Ryerson University. She looks forward to mentoring and instructing future CPAs through her role as a Case Coach, which she holds with the Graduate Program at Ted Rogers School of Management.

Chad is Co-Founder and Partner at LiveCA, which is changing the way CPAs connect and serve their clients while maintaining an adventurous lifestyle. He currently lead the sales and NoCode Development teams within the company.

A graduate of Ryerson University with a BComm in Accounting and St Mary’s University with an MBA, Chad firmly believes in the principles of education and knowledge sharing, which makes his interactions with customers and peers that much more interesting.

In June 2015, Jennifer created Maverick Consulting Group, which operates recruiting, transition services and consulting with a sole focus on finance and accounting professionals. Previously, she worked companies such as PwC, Kellogg’s Canada, Pepsi Cola Canada and Amgen Canada, to name a few.

Jennifer regularly volunteers her time with CPA Ontario as the current President of the Hamilton CPA Ontario Association and she is a regular at case competitions as both a judge and keynote speaker.

Fahad Tariq, CPA, CA

Fahad is the Founder of Shift, a non-profit that converts animal and human waste into reliable, inexpensive energy in developing countries. He also works on Bay Street as an Equity Research Analyst at Credit Suisse, where he covers materials stocks.

A frequent speaker on social enterprise and renewable energy, Fahad has earned the Ivey Emerging Leaders Award, CPA Ontario Emerging Leader Award and Ascend Rising Star Award. He holds a BComm from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University.

Ransi began her career in PwC’s Assurance practice before leaving to raise capital for a fintech startup in Kampala, Uganda. She is now a coffee trader for one of North America's top roasters.

Ransi firmly believes in the ability to change and adapt. Being a CPA has provided her a solid foundation to grow while maintaining the professionalism and excellence of the designation. A former graduate of University of Toronto, Ransi obtained a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Economics and specializing in Accounting.

Garth is the founder of Sheriff Consulting, specializing in delivering professional and leadership skills webinars and online courses.

Sheriff Consulting's mission is to create a learning environment that is both engaging and impactful to your professional development. Garth has also received training and worked as a professional actor. He is a member of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists and a graduate in improv from The Second City.

Rachel is a Wilfrid Laurier University alumnus with experience in public accounting and industry, and she has recently expanded into real estate investments.

She is currently involved with EmpowHERto, a non-profit organization, as a mentor for the Finance Finesse Financial Literacy Program, where she helps deliver sessions on personal finance to young women. Rachel is passionate about empowering the next generation of leaders and supports them to reach their goals and live fulfilling lives.

Julie is Canada’s go-to etiquette expert, an energizing speaker and a sought-after media collaborator. She is the author of four books, including Etiquette: Confidence & Credibility.

Julie is Chief Etiquette Officer and founder of etiquettejulie.com, a training and development firm dedicated to teaching poise, polish and professionalism. Prior to starting her business, Julie cumulated close to a decade of experience in human resources and management as well as training and development, while developing her expertise in interactive workshops based on adult learning principles.

Passionate about the vital role that non-profit organizations play in communities, Marya holds a bachelor’s degree in Management & Organizational Studies (specialization in Finance & Administration) from Western University.

Tim is a partner in BDO’s Waterloo office with over 25 years of public accounting experience. He is responsible for providing clients with a wide range of Business Advisory services and is the former leader for BDO’s Regional Not-for-Profit Industry Team.

In 2011, Tim was awarded the CPA Ontario Fellow distinction for his service to the profession and community.. He has volunteered for the Board of Directors for Supportive Housing of Waterloo, Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region and Waterloo Catholic District School Board.

Heran Jung, CPA, CMA

During the pandemic, Heran provided strategic guidance and CFO expertise to the Canadian Hockey League as Vice-President, Finance and Administration. Prior to this, she launched her own consulting and advisory business after four years in the role of Vice-President, Residential Finance at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

Heran holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from York University’s Schulich School of Business and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in French Linguistics and Translation from the University of Toronto.
