COMMUNITIES OF INTEREST
THE EMERGING LEADERS ADVISORY, ESTABLISHED THIS YEAR, IS THE FIRST ENTITY FORMED UNDER CPA ONTARIO’S NEW MEMBER CONNECTIVITY PROGRAM
CPA Ontario members have told us they want to connect with their peers around shared experiences and interests. We’ve responded by launching a new member connectivity program: Communities of Interest.
Through Communities of Interest, members will be able to engage with peers around important themes and issues – in person and online. They’ll also have opportunities to shape the work and offerings of CPA Ontario. Spanning the entire province, Communities of Interest will complement CPA Ontario’s 24 active associations, which connect members at the local level.
In January of 2018, we kick-started our first Community of Interest by launching our Emerging Leaders Advisory. The group is made up of 10 dynamic CPAs – all under the age of 34 – who are shaping the future of our profession across diverse areas of work: as entrepreneurs, as activists, and as leaders in major corporations and non-profit organizations.
Knowing that many younger CPAs are interested in sharing their expertise on not-for-profit boards, the Emerging Leaders advisory designed a program to help their peers hone their governance skills and connect with organizations that fit their interests. Although inspired by the specific priorities of younger CPAs, these offerings will be accessible to the entire CPA Ontario community.
The Advisory has also opened nominations for a new Emerging Leader Award, which will celebrate outstanding CPA Ontario members under the age of 34 whose careers have been marked by social responsibility, innovation, overall impact, and strong ambassadorship on behalf of the profession.
As the Communities of Interest program continues to grow, members can follow CPA Ontario’s newsletter, In the Know, for updates – and for information about how they can help to shape new Communities and their activities.
