Student Deregistration

As a student, you may be deregistered for reasons such as non-payment of Annual Student Dues, three-time failure of modules or exams, incomplete student requirements by the prescribed deadlines and breaching education policies or academic and student codes of conduct.

If you are deregistered, you lose student rights and privileges, any transitional or special considerations awarded, credits, courses and any reported practical experience.

Further details on deregistration and its consequences are found in Regulation 9-1.

Student reregistration

A student who resigns or is deregistered for non-payment of the Annual Student Dues (ASD) can be reregistered at the Registrar’s discretion. The student may be subject to restrictions and conditions.

A student who is deregistered for other reasons can only be reregistered in extraordinary circumstances at the discretion of the Registrar, the Admission and Registration Committee or the Appeal Committee. The student may be subject to restrictions and conditions.

To submit a reregistration request, a deregistered student must provide:

  • a written explanation of the extraordinary circumstances that led to deregistration and how they impacted the student at the time, including any mitigating factors that might allow for reregistration
  • relevant documentation supporting the extraordinary circumstances

Extraordinary circumstances are external, unanticipated and beyond the control of the individual. Supporting documents may include, but are not limited to, medical documents, birth certificate, death certificate or letter from an employer. Other documents may be requested on a case-by-case basis.

Written requests, along with supporting documentation, can be emailed to CPA Ontario. Students can expect a response within six to eight weeks.

Further details on reregistration are found in Regulation 9-1.

Appeal rights

A decision of the Registrar not to register or reregister an individual as a student, or to deregister a student, may be appealed by the individual or student to CPA Ontario Admission and Registration Committee. The parties to an appeal are the individual appealing and the Registrar. The appeal shall be conducted in accordance with CPA Ontario’s Rules of Practice and Procedure. The decision of the Admission and Registration Committee is final.
