Information for CGA Transitioning Students

CPA Ontario strives to provide the best education and support for all our students so that they can earn the CPA designation. We encourage our CGA transitioning students to pay the 2016 Annual Student Fee (ASF) and continue in the CPA Program as they are eligible for significant transitional privileges, ensuring that your investment in the CGA Program is applied to the CPA Program. These transitional privileges include:

  • Courses recognized by CGA, will not be reassessed for the CPA Program, including transfer credits. See the CGA to CPA Course Mapping Chart.
  • The ten-year limit on core course recognition is waived:  all core courses recognized towards the CGA Program are recognized in the CPA Program.
  • A 90-credit degree requirement instead of a 120-credit degree requirement, valid until June 1, 2020. Under your transitional benefits, a degree is not required until you enrol in Capstone 1.
  • Practical experience can be completed based on CGA Professional Experience Required for Certification (PERC) until September 1, 2018, if a PERC entry was submitted prior to September 1, 2015. Any professional experience approved by CGA will be accepted and not reassessed.

Students who do not pay the ASF will be suspended and eventually deregistered, losing all of the benefits above as well as all experience and credits earned to date.  Students wishing to reregister in the CPA Program at a later date will be treated as new students. To pay your 2016 ASF, please log in.
