Efile Issue for Those in Ontario Who Prepare Personal and Corporate Tax Returns in Quebec

Revenue Quebec, as part of the enhancements to its electronic filing services for personal and corporate tax returns, has created two levels of service for tax preparers. These have created certain challenges for practitioners who reside outside Quebec, yet file Quebec returns on behalf of their clients. To use either service, tax preparers are required to have a Quebec Enterprise Number (NEQ), which can only be obtained with a Quebec address. Tax preparers residing outside Quebec may be able to utilize a “nominee” in Quebec to meet this requirement. To assist CPA Canada members residing outside of Quebec who wish to obtain an NEQ with the identification of a nominee in Quebec, CPA Canada has made arrangements with Norton Rose Fulbright in Montreal, QC to act as nominee. Upon payment of a fee and agreement, Norton Rose will prepare the NEQ registration, act as nominee and forward any mail received on behalf of the tax preparer. Tax preparers are free to seek other arrangements.

Members interested in learning more, or who would like Norton Rose to assist with the NEQ registration, should contact Ms. Mylene Tremblay by email at can.neq.request@nortonrosefulbright.com. Please contact Gabe Hayos, FCPA, FCA, ICD.D, CPA Canada’s Vice-President, Taxation at ghayos@cpacanada.ca if you have any feedback or questions otherwise on the use of this service.
